About EAT
Information about EAT
EAT - Eating Abroad Together – Linking language and health is a new and exciting European project that is due to start in November 2007 and last for 2 years.
This project involves 20 primary schools in 5 European countries - Romania, Bulgaria, Holland, Italy and the UK. Each school will link up with a foreign school from one of the partner countries.
Together they will exchange healthy eating tips, recipes, cultural similarities and differences, local customs and old wives tales.
The children will research their local recipes and traditions, draw pictures to accompany words, phrases and where possible record these words to help each other with pronunciation.
In the UK, student teachers and child nursing students, doing their work placements in these schools will help with the research - linking it with the curriculum where possible.
All the data will be collected and translated into all the partner languages which can then be extracted and used to create multilingual resources, recipe booklets and a wealth of other fun and interesting things such as calendars, tea towels, placemats, T- shirts, mugs, mouse mats etc.
Community activities will be organised such as cooking demonstrations with local celebrity chefs to encourage healthy eating. Local producers will be encouraged to participate along with the whole family.
A final event is planned to involve all the schools – hopefully a ‘cook off’ using the recipes of the different countries.
